Runway Recap: Bottega Veneta S/S 09

In his eight years as creative director at Bottega Veneta, Tomas Maier has carefully honed in on the art of an old world aesthetic and given the fashion house its much needed second wind. His statement backstage last September – “People like clothes they can collect and wear for years” – rang particularly true as his models came ethereally down the runway in an array of finely wrought dresses in soft, supple leather followed by crinkled and vaguely Victorian suits and shirtdresses. The color scheme was muted, as per usual, but the largely fall-inspired palette held a few surprises in rich hues of tangerine and marigold.
